FAQ about 1940s shoes
Rationing during the war made shoes simpler and sturdier, but no less stylish. Women wore lace-up oxfords and pumps with a solid medium heel for work, two-tone spectator shoes at the weekend, and peep toes and wedge sandals in summer. Suede became popular because leather was rationed.
Pumps with a sturdy, medium-high heel, often in suede with details such as rosettes, bows or contrast stitching, along with spectator pumps and peep toes. Lucy, Luise, Edith and Jean are good examples.
Two-tone shoes, usually in a light leather with a darker toe and heel. They were the classic weekend and swing dance shoe of the 1930s and 1940s. Lucy, Grace and Clara are our spectator and two-tone styles.

Yes. Robbie is a 1940s military boot made for both men and women, and Charles is a two-tone spectator shoe inspired by the 1930s and 1940s.
The story of 1940s shoes
The 1940s were shaped by the Second World War. Leather was rationed, so shoes had to be practical and made to last. Women wore sturdy lace-up shoes and pumps with a solid heel for work, while suede, cork wedges and peep toes kept the decade stylish. After work, two-tone spectator shoes took to the dance floor, and winter called for warm, lined boots.
Our 1940s styles are based on originals from the decade. We have kept the period details, from the rosettes and contrast stitching to the shape of the toe and the solid heel.
Every pair is made from full-grain leather or suede in small production runs.
Many styles have discreet silicone inserts under the insole, so you can wear them all day. Several styles also come in wide fit.
